Pop Culture and Breastfeeding

I’m not a die hard Dollhouse fan, however, we watch it on Hulu. It runs on the premise that the ‘Dollhouse’ imprints people for different purposes for paying clients. You want a serial killer, we’ll imprint one of our model like zombies to kill for you, you want a girlfriend, again we’ll make one to your specifications for you. Its a mildly interesting premise, although I think they could delve more into the ethical issues and less on the plotline of the day.

I was however pretty impressed that in the episode ‘Instinct’ (Season 2, Episode 2). Echo is ‘imprinted’ as a mother. In one of the first scenes she breastfeeds the child of a client (a man whose wife died giving birth and wanted a ‘real’ mother for his child). It reinforces that breastfeeding is a integral part of mothering.  I was really surprised to see that on prime time television, but also really impressed.

Of course in the scene it doesn’t really look like she’s breastfeeding, but it was the thought that counts!

Lunch is quite delicious. Thank You.

So, today, at work, we are moving EVERYTHING. Desks, incubators, fridges, shelving units, filing cabinets, EVERYTHING!

If it isn’t bolted to the floor, it’s getting moved. Then on Saturday, we’re spending a thousand (plus?) dollars getting the floors polished.

I’d prefer that they not lay me off, rather than polish floors.

That is all.

Obsession

So recently having a child (recently meaning 5 months ago), we have a lot of diaper needs and for some reason I am obsessed with cloth diapers.

Thanks to a tanking economy, a college student spouse, and bills, I don’t get to act on said obsession much, but I need to show you my favorite diapers so far.

So baby A wears these diapers. And I love them. . . but I am over the velcro, it doesn’t look so pretty after 4-5 months. And poop in velcro is. . . well complicated.

And since we have a chunker (19 pounds 8 ounces at 4 months) we need ‘fat kid’ diapers. So I really want to invest in these. Can we say snaps and cow print! (Moo!)

But then last night, I’m surfing the web for diapers. (Yes, this happens quite often.) and I found these. If they work as well as they do conceptually I think they’d be fabulous for day trips/vacation/camping/mom didn’t do the laundry days/etc.

*sigh* If I had a large diaper fund I would be set. But I’ll leave you with my two favorite baby purchases yet. I could NOT live with out this. And my favorite non-essential purchase yet (Never fear! I did NOT pay full price for that blanket! Go BabySteals!)

Guess who’s back!

So after a long blogless year or so, I’m back. No promises on frequent updates and what not, but I keep finding things I want to share!
